Origami House
ORIGAMI House
The Origami House, Aireys Inlet (in-progress)
Origami House folds new form into the old — an addition that carefully responds to the character, materiality, and rhythm of the original home, while unlocking new ways to live and enjoy the site.
The roofline of the new wing echoes the geometry of the existing, creating a cohesive silhouette that steps with the slope. Bookended by daybeds at either end, the design offers places of pause and quiet retreat. A new Master Bedroom wing rises gently with the terrain, while the Lounge extends westward, opening to light and long views over the new pool.
Large external decks are woven between living spaces, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor connection, ideal for beachside life. Upstairs, bedrooms are tucked within the folds of the roofline. A bridge walkway spans across the void above the Living and Dining areas — linking spaces while inviting light and volume through the heart of the home.
Visitor parking is nestled discreetly between existing trees in the front garden. A new carport and storage zone provide practical additions without overpowering the setting. Throughout, the scheme preserves the form, warmth, and material palette of the original dwelling, while introducing a sustainable, future-focused layer — celebrating passive solar design, natural ventilation, and recycled materials.
A thoughtful reworking that expands not only the home’s footprint, but also its possibilities for rest, connection, and coastal living.
