Kangaroo Ground
The Kangaroo Ground House, Kangaroo Ground 2010 - 2012
Kangaroo House is a rural home designed to settle gently into its grassy, sloping site. Created for a family seeking space and clarity, the single-storey dwelling offers a calm and functional response to its landscape — balancing everyday living with a sense of quiet permanence.
The plan brings together four bedrooms and a central open-plan Living, Dining, and Kitchen zone, framed by generous decking that encourages outdoor connection. A triple garage, storage spaces, and integrated water systems support the practical needs of rural life, while maintaining the overall simplicity of the design.

Material selections emphasise durability and restraint. Concrete render, painted compressed sheet, and vertical timber cladding are set beneath a low-pitched Colorbond roof in ‘Dune’, with contrasting ‘Monument’ flashings. The composition is clean and legible, with each element contributing to the home's grounded, horizontal expression.
Internally, the palette remains muted and natural, reflecting the tones of the surrounding landscape. Passive design principles guide orientation and ventilation, while a water tank and on-site wastewater treatment system provide sustainable support with minimal visual impact.
Kangaroo House is a quiet, enduring home — one that responds to the land with humility and confidence.
