Sea House

Sea House

The Sea House, Jan Juc 2013 - 2015

Sea House is a coastal home nestled into a gently sloping site, composed as two timber-clad volumes arranged around a central glazed link. Designed to harness panoramic views across the southern coastline, the form is bold yet finely detailed — offering a sense of clarity, warmth, and protection in its exposed seaside setting.

The dwelling is divided into two distinct wings, subtly offset to follow the contours of the site and frame shared outdoor spaces. A glazed stair bridge links the upper levels, creating a visual pause while connecting the plan’s vertical movement. Full-height windows, deep reveals, and generous openings allow the interiors to remain visually tied to the landscape, drawing light and horizon deep into the heart of the home.

FRONT-SKETCH

The material palette is restrained and tactile. Horizontal timber cladding wraps both levels, framed by crisp concrete panels and softened by the rhythm of glazing and shadow. The combination of natural timber and raw concrete lends a grounded elegance, referencing the surrounding dunes and weathered textures of the coast, while ensuring durability in a marine environment.

Internally, spaces are calm and airy, oriented to capture coastal light and breezes. Passive solar principles underpin the home’s performance, while outdoor living areas are sheltered within the building’s L-shaped configuration. Sea House is a quiet yet striking coastal retreat — one that balances natural exposure with intimacy, and material honesty with refined detailing.
