Unit Development

Unit Development x4, Torquay (08/2007 - 09/2008 )

Four new unit development on two existing vacant sites.  We designed the front three units with a front setback, the dwellings step in and out and in conjunction with the Landscape Design will read as 3 individual dwellings.

Each of the front 3 Units has a view to the Ocean with privacy screening controlling overlooking.  Units 1-3 have Living areas at Level 1, while the 4th Unit has Living, Dining and Kitchen spaces on the Ground Floor opening out to the garden.  Roofs over Living spaces are tilted upward to allow North light in through highlight windows, with suitable eaves for solar passive sun control.  Windows will be double glazed throughout with solar hot water services likely to be installed.


The main external materials are compressed sheet (paint finish) with expressed joints and timber cladding with penetrative stain.  These materials help to articulate the façade.  Timber privacy screens, perforated metal (galvanized & powder coated) and colourbond roof, gutters, dp’s are also proposed.  The colours chosen will be earthy, yet sleek and will be enhancing the connection between the dwelling and the indigenous Landscaping.  We see these dwellings as houses within a treed canopy that will enhance privacy between dwellings, and also enhance the Streetscape.
